Lesson 3

Installation: Practicing multi disciplinary models of “Third Space”
Tuesday, July 18, 2006
(Morning Session 10:00 – 12:00)

Description: Participants worked to transform the CW Post Student Gallery into a site for engaged and active learning. This workshop began by exploring the multifaceted concepts of installation art through writing, Visual Studies Questions, and examples of installations from successful partnerships. Participant generated rubrics were combined with exercises in art making and technology to prepare a “third space” for the ESP seminar in the CW Post Student Gallery. Workshop participants utilized material generated from ESP seminar attendees in previous collaborative project workshops as well as created new material for this multi dimensional experience.

Aims: A.) Have participants consider multi disciplinary/multi media assemblages and how they affect viewer accessibility to ideas.
B.)Recognize installation as a tool to speak in different ways, through a variety of materials. Realize different materials as different languages.
C.) Create a Rubric that works as a guide to articulate aspects of “installation” and direct the ultimate ESP seminar project.
D.) Participate in individual, small group, and entire workshop learning experiences.
