Mind Training: Transforming essential questions to reflection and action.

(Afternoon Session 3:45 – 5:45) 

Description: Participants utilized surrealist visual art making games, contemplative education strategies, and participant generated review protocols to transform the 2006 ESP Peer to Peer Essential Questions into ideal reflection and action statements.  The collaborative exercises from this highly interactive workshop were the foundations of the cumulative, week-long Thinking Back, Looking Forward Collaborative Project featured in the CW Post Student Art Gallery for the entire 2006 ESP Summer Seminar.

Aims:	A.) Have participants learn and model some basic concepts of Collaboration.
B.) Learn to create a rubric to illustrate assessment and use as a guide for observation and awareness.
C.) Use a rubric for both the evaluation of collaborative work and the fabrication of a collective project where the outcome is communally determined.
D.) Practice Mind Training through self generated Peer Review Protocols
E.) Participate in individual, small group, and entire workshop learning experiences.
F.) Practice Mindfulness
G.) Synthesize qualities of respect that are important in collaboration.
		
Theme:	Collaboration transcends individual privileges where separate expectations are replaced with equality and collective self-interest.

Methods:	A.) Mindfulness Exercise w/Raisins 				30 minutes
B.) Introduce rubric using participant’s contributions	5 minutes 
C.) Introduce Exquisite Corpse/handout sheets		5 minutes
D.) Exquisite Corpse Exercise (one session)			20 minutes
E.) Revisit rubric using Exquisite Corpse contributions	5 minutes 
F.) Hand out Peer to Peer Essential Questions/review	5 minutes
G.) Use rubric as protocol to transform the Peer to Peer Essential Questions into ideal reflection and action statements		                20 minutes	
		H.) Share group process to transform questions		10 minutes
		I.) Collectively review questions and statements		10 minutes	
		J.) Close – handout packets, evaluations, and reflections	10 minutes
