Sounds of Paradise caribbean band has been playing a lively variety of music since the group was started in 1993 by vocalist/steeldrum player Brad Winchell. An Anaheim, CA native and resident, Brad became fascinated with the rhythms and melodies of music from Trinidad, Jamaica, Cuba, Brazil and Africa. For years he and the band have brought their love of the steeldrum and the feeling of being in the islands to audiences throughout California and abroad. Sounds of Paradise has been featured in live television performances for the KTLA morning news (#1 rated) and the NBC morning news. It has also provided music for commercial use on radio and TV. Most of all, the band has played at hundreds of successful private engagements, corporate functions, resorts, weddings and promotional events. Clients appreciate the group’s professionalism, enthusiasm and talent. Sounds of Paradise can vary the number of players in the band according to what is best suited for the event. For smaller events or situations with limited space or budget, the band can provide a very full sound with just one or two players. When the event really calls for excitement and dancing, S O P can play with 5-6 players plus a full Caribbean Dance Show in conjunction with the AFRO-CARIBBEAN DANCE REVIEW (fire eater, limbo,etc.). For added variety, the group loves to play special, all-percussion African or Brazilian samba pieces: when the mood is right, ofcourse. For a truly authentic and traditional steelband sound, many of S O P ’s members can play as part of Big Bamboo : an all steeldrum ensemble with 4-7 players.
