Alaska Bound
Saturday, April 26, 2008
Well we’re here in Alaska! Sorry it’s been a little late posting pictures of the trip. As soon as we got here Alex went right to work.

Going from sandy beaches and green grass to snow and cold has been an interesting transition. We thought we were going to Alaska for the summer but we ended up coming in time for the biggest snowfall of the season. 18 inches is the official number but several places around town saw closer to 24.
(It’s okay because we’ll be fishing in no time though.)

We want to thank everyone that has helped us along the way on our wonderful trip from Hawaii to Arizona and on northward to Alaska. We really enjoyed visiting everyone and regret not being able to visit everyone we would have liked. Especially John, Missey, and the kids in Montana. We’ll make a special trip to see you guys next time.

Arriving in Arizona and we’re already in snow. We were greeted by a foot of new snow in Flagstaff.
As you can see Gavin is really growing fast!
We spent one night in Vegas with Bonnies friend John Galea.
We spent two nights in Incline Village, north Lake Tahoe with our friends Charlie and Aimee. Congratulations on the new baby guys. We can’t wait to meet little Grace.

Gavin needs to work on his mushing skills. I think he’s just confusing his buddy Finn.
One night is not enough time for sure. Just a fair warning John... we’ll be back.
Great Uncle Alex Lommel is 97 years old and lives in California. Here we’re missing one generation of Lommel for the picture. We just stopped in for a quick visit and had a wonderful dinner that uncle Alex prepared for us. We really enjoyed our visit and we’re coming down for the 100th birthday party. (Uncle Alex is still driving by the way) Shows we’ve got some good genes on the Lommel side of the Family.
Think it’s still good?
I thought California beaches were supposed to be warm. I think we might just have to sue the
                                                                 Beach Boys.
The trees of mystery park was a blast. This is the one section of the trip Alex was looking forward to. It’s been a long time since we had seen the redwood forests.
Apparently Paul Bunyan had “nothing” to do with Babes missing head....    Yeah right...  He looks more than a little suspicious with that axe in hand.
Later that same evening.........
Next Stop... Cousin Davids.

We spent the night in Grants Pass Oregon with Alex’s dad’s cousin David and his wife Sandy.
They were kind enough to put up with us for the night and show us old films from the Lommel ranch. We really enjoyed all of the stories about the creamery.
From cousin David Lommel to brother David Lommel was the next leg of the journey. We stayed two nights in Seattle with David, Jessie, & cousin Millie. They just moved up from Arizona in time for us to visit.
A run-in with Washington’s finest!

Canada!!!

From here on out it was pretty much just driving since Alex had to get to his job. It was still pretty early in the season so there wasn’t too much open along the alcan. It made for fast travel time though.
Kluane Lake
ALASKA!!!!
It feels good to be home finally. Although we had a great time on the road trip, we’re glad it’s over. Next time we need to slow down and enjoy the trip a little more.

Thanks to everybody that made our trip so wonderful and please take the time to leave us a comment letting us know you stopped by.

Love, Aloha, & Camai from Alaska,
            Alex, Bonnie, & Gavin
We all took turns driving.
Auntie Anna and Cousin Henry
The Gionson ohana.
April showers bring May flowers... right?
                                    Oh... not snow showers....
2 feet of new snow yesterday!!!!
Auntie Kim and Uncle Ron took care of getting us to the airport with full bellies.
(Beastie made sure Gavin was nice and clean for the trip)
