The next members meeting will be on Saturday 14th November at 1.30 p.m.
Bolton Arts Community Members is a social enterprise organisation founded in 2003. The original idea for the organisation was to promote mental well-being, allowing mental health service users the opportunity to immerse themselves in their art as part of their recovery process. The major problem was finding the right premises. By the time the premises had been found it was 2005 and by good fortune, the original idea had been modified to make BACM a fully inclusive organisation.
As a small group, members moved into the premises and began to construct the individual studio spaces, using voluntary help. Fortunately, artists are usually skilled in other areas, and we found we had qualified electricians, joiners, engineers, plumbers, fabricators and of course, painters.
Building work commenced in January 2006 and the company held its first exhibition in June that year. From that time on the studios have been relatively full although, due to personal movement some do become available from time to time (click the yellow advert on the right for current availability).
The studios are very pleasant to work in and due to the open plan nature, all artists are expected to respect their colleagues. Respect them as fellow artists, respect their work, their space, their materials and equipment.
The organisation has several major art exhibitions a year with one in June always being held on the weekend of the Horwich Carnival (see the links page for more information).
