The Magic Gown is JL Kimmel’s dream-like homage to authors Lewis Carroll and Frank Baum. Written for the eight-to-twelve-year-old set, Kimmel places her extraordinary paintings in the midst of a tale featuring a young girl seemingly trapped in a strange world of enchanting characters and archetypes. While many children’s adventure stories are often filled with predictable tired plot points, Kimmel’s writing is more ethereal. She holds a mirror to how we are held captive in a present where moments pass, flicker and disappear. As each instant dissolves into the next, Kimmel wants us to believe that there is a more hopeful future for all of humanity on the horizon. This pod cast segment was aired in February.
