Bob’s Bio

Bob was born on September 26, 1974 in Chicago Illinois. Bob has two sisters and one brother. Bob is the youngest of the family. At the age of 4 Bob's family moved out to California because of his father's new job there. They settled into a house in Claremont and his parents still live there.

Bob has a short haired dachshund named Felix. Felix just turned 7 years old this past July and Bob threw him a nice little birthday party a couple years back. Quite a few people came by considering it was a birthday party for a dog.  This past year there was no big celebration.  Felix didn’t seem to mind.

Bob was (is) a pretty quiet person until he's comfortable with new people. He is lousy at small talk. If it isn't something he knows about he's going to have a hard time contributing. This can give people the impression that Bob is distant, but that is generally not the case. He just find it difficult to bridge a gap if he cannot join the conversation in a meaningful way. "Pointless small talk is offensive." are words he has been heard to say.

Bob can have a very good time on his own. He just recently traveling to Boston by himself on a whim. When asked about going there alone he remarked, "A nice thing about traveling alone is that you don't have to vote on what you want to see. You don't have to wait for people. You don't have to do something you don't want to do just so that someone else is happy."

In high school all the children were involved in the theatre. Bob was on the technical side of the curtain.  He nearly went into theatre arts in college, but then realized he'd have to take acting classes. That put a stop to that. He did some searching in elective classes in school and got hooked on plants. He was all set to transfer up to Humboldt State to become a forest ranger when he changed his mind at the last minute and went into horticulture instead.

While in school he began interning at Highland Garden Center to help learn the business and make some money. After graduating cum laude from Cal Poly with his B.S. degree he went on to a full time position in management at the nursery. He worked there for ten years, leaving for a position in a completely unrelated industry.  Bob worked at the new place for 2 and a half years part time along with his job at the nursery.  Basically he worked every day of the week other than holidays and the one week vacation a year.  The new job is very different from what he’s been doing for a decade, but he’s looking forward to the challenge.  Bob will always have a fascination with horticulture, and he might even do some side projects to keep it in his brain.  It’s tough to let go of something completely when it’s been such a big part of your life since the 1900’s.

Bob's biggest interest lately is photography. The year 2006 added about 3200 photos to the collection.  He just got a D300 that still needs to be figured out completely.  Bob also has gotten bitten by the geocaching bug.  Something that he’s certainly looking forward to getting back into heavily with days off.  He dabbles in video, music both playing and listening (he owns a couple guitars but plays only for himself), keeping up on his blog and getting out into nature when he can.

Seconds till the best day of the year
