1. BOOKS. You should be careful to keep all books in good shape, as you will wish to sell them or return
at the end of the year.
2.LEGIBILITY. Make your work legible. Anything I cannot read is counted as incorrect.
3.HEADING OF PAPERS. Any paper that is submitted must have student name and page number in the upper right hand corner..
4. PERSONAL MATERIALS. Classwork and homework must be done in ink [blue or black]. All tests
must be done in ink [blue or black]. You must have a red pen to correct your translations.
5.HOMEWORK. Homework must be neat, complete and on time. Failure to have homework more than
once in a marking period will also be sufficient reason for your receiving grade point deductions. If you were too sick to do homework, the instructor expects communication about the situation.
6. EXTRA HELP. If you have sincerely tried to understand the material and have done your work
each evening and have paid attention in class, but you are still experiencing difficulty, please call me at
at home [901-753-9666] between 7:00 and 9:00PM.
7.GRADING POLICIES. For each grading period, grades will be based on frequent quizzes,
lesson/unit tests, class participation, homework/workbook, class behavior and attitude.
8.PUNCTUALITY. You are expected to be in your assigned seats and prepared for class at the sound of
the bell. If this requirement is not met, it will have adverse effects on your grade. Specifically, every
third tardy will constitute an absence, and you will receive a detention.
SCHOOL TARDINESS POLICY. Every third tardy to each individual class will constitute one of the
6 absences. Every third tardy thereafter will count as another day of absence and so on.
9.ATTENDANCE. Do not be absent unless you are ill. If the absence is unavoidable, you are responsible for getting notes and assignments from another student or on my web site. Be prepared to
call someone in your class for your assignments. Classwork is still due on the stated date regardless
of whether you were here or not. On the day that you return see the instructor immediately for
clarification of details on make up work.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE POLICY. Students may incur no more than 6 excused absences per
semester. Upon returning to school, the student must bring a note from a parent, guardian, doctor, etc.
to the attendance office. All notes to be signed must be submitted before 8:00 am. Without an admit
slip from the attendance office, students will not be admitted to class. A parent or guardian will be
contacted immediately
If a student has more than 6 absences in a semester, she will incur the following:
A.A deduction of 1 point from the semester grade per absence beyond the allowed 6. This means that
if the student were to be absent 7 times during the semester, her semester average would be
lowered by 1 point, by 2 points for 8 absences and so on.
B.The following are not considered absences:
1. Representing the school in a sports competition.
2. Representing the school in an academic competition.
3. Representing the school officially in the community as a spokesperson for the school.
4. Seniors going on the maximum allowed three college days.
5. Attending family emergencies with the knowledge of the Upper School Dean
6. Attending funerals with the knowledge of the Upper School Dean.
10. SPECIFIC MAKE-UP POLICY. Homework is due the date that you return unless you were sick the
night before. All projects must be submitted on the date that they are due. There are special rules for
extended illnesses. In the event that a test was missed, be prepared to take it on the day that you return
if possible. Anyone who fails to communicate with the instructor about make-up work on the day of
return receives a 0 for that work. Anyone who doesn’t show on the day decided upon for make-up
work gets a 0. The best rule of thumb is to use common sense. Turn assignments in on time and
communicate, so that we can decide on a reasonable make-up procedure when you have been absent.
SCHOOL MAKE-UP POLICY. After the day of return, students will be allowed one day to make up
work per day of absence. For example, if a student misses a Friday and returns on a Monday, all
work is to be made up by Tuesday. Tests, homework and papers not made up within this time frame
will result in a grade of 0.
11.All work in this class is subject to the stipulations in the honor code. Any infraction therein will result
in a referral to the Honor Council. Use of electronic devices or on-line translations are a violation of
the honor code. Only text or paper dictionaries are to be used for translations.
