It was only 72 degrees this morning at 8. We’re in the midst of a heat wave that won’t subside until mid-week. 97 degrees is supposed to be the high today. I was just outside with the dogs when an object fell from one of the trees. It made a thump when it hit the ground. I went over to check it out. It was a motionless cicada. Wow, is it so hot that cicada are dying from the heat? Well, maybe a cicada killer really just paralyzed it before it accidentally dropped it? Oops!
I pointed the cicada out to Mako. He thinks that they are all fabulous toys. Punch thinks that they are a snack that you take from Mako. That’s exactly how it played out. Mako was overjoyed to find it and immediately threw it into the air. Happy, happy! Joy, joy! Punch drew a bead on the festivities and zoomed in to spoil the fun. It wasn’t long before she took the “new toy” and started to munch on it. Mako didn’t care. He was just so thrilled to play with it for a while and he was off to conquer new frontiers.
Meanwhile, Punch slowly - and happily - chewed her snack. And it was good.
