The Bumblebee Bop

This painting, the Bumblebee Bop, is my donation to the silent auction that is currently being held @ the Gibby in Middletown, DE. This painting is part of Art from the Heart - a Fundraiser for the Everett Theatre. (Click on Everett Art Fundraiser). The auction runs through Sept. 28 with a closing reception on that day from 2-5 PM. There is more info on my web site.

The Bumblebee Bop is the second in a series of paintings that deal with carnival rides. This is a tiny painting - 5” x 7” - that fits the guidelines of the auction.  I plan to paint a large and expanded version soon. Years ago, I bought a tee shirt in NYC with a bee face on it named Buzz (see below). I have loved that face so much that I’ve kept the shirt all these years. When I was researching ideas for a summer exhibit @ the Gibby, I came across an image of a children’s roller coaster that looked liked worms and with it was a ride that consisted of bees! There was the face on my bee shirt It was the inspiration for Buzz! In researching the name of the worm ride - the Wacky Worm - I also found out the name of the bee ride - the Bumblebee Bop. I’ll discuss the Wacky Worm painting in another post but I have had a great time painting theses rides. I love that little bee face!
