BWOF 01-2008-116 Wrap Top in Dyed Silk Jersey

In it’s natural state before dying. Make sure to sew with either silk or cotton covered thread if you plan to dye it! Or, you could dye the fabric first. Look closely and you’ll see I’m still not scared to use Mark-B-Gone :-) I just make sure to rinse it off in COOL water! (which I have been doing for years)
Finally I got to use silk jersey- I have been dreaming about making something from it for years. I think this top was the perfect first-time project being it’s a pretty easy pattern and the drape of the silk jersey is beautifully incorporated. It is a little tricky to work with: while lining up seams, it constantly tried to escape my fingers. Also, while cutting out, if some of the fabric (even a small piece) was at an overhang of the table, it pulled and distorted the grain- and this wasn’t even noticeable until I moved the fabric back on the table and smoothed it out. Thankfully I did that before any cutting!
It’s pretty sheer for it’s weight. Absolutely beautiful drape.
I bought this from www.silkconnection.com. Excellent service, fast shipping and (I think) reasonable prices. They also give you very generous cuts! I ordered 2 yards, and I received an extra 20”!

Not the color I intended or wanted: this silk jersey favors red. I wanted blue-violet, and used navy blue dye after testing a swatch. Still, the red won. If there’s a next time, I’ll use cerulean blue with just a dash of red.
Without the arms... this is more like DD’s shoulder width.
Narrow cover stitch on neck and hems.
1 1/2” added to top of camisole. About 2” less elastic than pattern calls for.
