Harrah’s signed a deal with U.S. Playing Card to provide fresh decks of cards for each and every table of every event at this year’s World Series of Poker. U.S. Playing Card even designed a new type of card that they called “Poker Peek,” and they described it as revolutionary.
Unfortunately, the players used words like “the shittiest cards I’ve ever seen.” That was from Daniel Negreanu, not known for flying off the handle. Mike Matusow, who is known for flying off the handle, reportedly had even harsher words, but I wasn’t around to hear them.
Take a look at the cards above. What’s the winning hand? The sixes and the nines are quite confusing, and the pips in the center of the card are so small that it’s sometimes difficult to tell the spades from the clubs.
Harrah’s replaced the cards with traditional ones a few hours into play, but they were still used in Events #2 ($500 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold’em) and #3 ($1,500 No-Limit Hold’em). Harrah’s assures us that traditional decks are on their way, and the Poker Peek fiasco will just be a memory. Until some of the decks show up on eBay, of course.
