About Billy Pittard

Billy Pittard is a pioneer in the media and entertainment design business. His innovative approaches to design, marketing communications, education, and digital technologies have been tapped by major brands the world over. His work has ranged from award-winning graphic design to breakthrough digital animation to world-class brand strategy to game-changing interface design and innovation with digital platforms.


His consultancy, Pittard Inc was formed to help companies with digital media projects, branding, and creative management.


Over his career, Billy has managed hundreds of top creative professionals and an immense body of work. He has taken this as an opportunity to study what makes great work possible and has developed a unique set of management processes that yield a consistently high level of quality and results.


His body of work spans over 200 television network brand identities around the world such as ABC, CBS, FX, and DirecTV, pioneering work for numerous revolutionary digital media platforms such as TiVo, AOL Plus (broadband), Oscar.com, and ABC.com, hundreds of main titles for television and film including ER, Nature, The West Wing, and Groundhog Day, unprecedented educational programs including algebra’scool and Super Size Me eeDVD, as well as numerous on-air TV promotions and commercials. His work at Lynda.com includes the creation of hundreds of hours of videos for software training and professional practices. He is the inventor of the award winning ZOOOOS Interactive Video System. This revolutionary system makes it possible to create highly interactive programs that work on a variety of platforms such as DVD, DVRs, and game consoles.


Billy began his career in 1976 at WNGE-TV in Nashville (now WKRN) as a part-time assistant to the Art Director while attending MTSU’s College of Mass Communications. Shortly after graduation in 1978, he was promoted to the position of Art Director for the station. In 1984 he was recruited by KCBS-TV in Los Angeles where he became Manager of Design. In 1986 he formed Pittard Design, later named Pittard Sullivan and proceeded to build the world’s leading creative service group for the entertainment and media industry. With offices in Los Angeles, New York, London, Munich, and Hong Kong, the company was the recognized leader in its field with a truly global presence. Services included design for all media, brand strategy, and marketing communications. Primary lines of business for the company were branding television networks, convergent media strategy, and interface design for emerging digital media platforms. In early 2008, Billy joined lynda.com as Programming Advisor. Lynda.com is the leading provider of online video learning for digital tools and digital lifestyles. In this role he has been responsible for product development and production, and for executive producing the popular monthly documentary series Creative Inspirations.


His work has received five Emmy Awards, twenty-three total Emmy nominations, and over 900 other professional awards. His work on algebra’scool was recognized at the Best Instructional Program of 2004 by the Association of Educational Publishers, and as the Best Educational Video of the last 25 years by the Telly Awards. His ZOOOOS Interactive Video System received the highest rating ever given for DVD systems by Children’s Technology Review, plus the 2007 iParenting Media Award, and the 2007 Parent’s Choice Award.


Mr. Pittard has served on numerous boards and is currently a member of the Board of Professional Advisors for Middle Tennessee State University’s School of Communications.
