About Billy Pittard

Billy Pittard is a pioneer in the media and entertainment design business with over three decades of experience. His innovative approaches to design, communications, education, and digital technologies have been tapped by major brands the world over. Never one to stand still, his work has ranged from award-winning graphic design to breakthrough digital animation to world-class brand strategy to game-changing interface design and innovation with digital platforms.


His consultancy, Pittard Inc was formed to help companies with creative management, branding, and digital media projects.


Billy’s creative philosophy of “good ideas well-executed” has been the hallmark of his work and has kept his creative solutions on target whether for a main title, a TV network brand, or a new digital platform. His body of work spans over 200 television network brand identities around the world, hundreds of main titles for television and film, pioneering work for numerous revolutionary digital media platforms, unprecedented educational programs, as well as numerous on-air TV promotions and commercials.


Over his career, Billy has managed hundreds of top creative professionals and an immense body of work. He has taken this as an opportunity to study what makes great work possible. In his quest to improve the ability to deliver great work, he has developed a unique set of management processes and refined them continuously. The result is a repeatable and reliable methodology that yields a consistently high level of on-target creative output and a high level of job satisfaction for all involved.


In 2004 while directing the groundbreaking educational program algebra’scool, he developed certain critical insights that led him to invent a new interactive DVD system called ZOOOOS. This revolutionary system makes it possible to create highly interactive programs that work on ordinary DVD players. In addition to inventing the system, he also directed the development of a suite of interactive DVDs for the platform including Spider-Man, Bob the Builder, Thomas & Friends, San Diego Zoo and a proprietary new property called Sandy Lane. ZOOOOS recently arrived on the retail market with considerable critical acclaim.


Billy began his career in 1976 at WNGE-TV in Nashville (now WKRN) where he quickly rose to the position of Art Director. After attracting national attention for his innovative work, in 1984 he was recruited by KCBS-TV in Los Angeles where he became Manager of Design. In 1986 he formed Pittard Design, later named Pittard Sullivan and proceeded to build the world’s leading creative service group for the entertainment and media industry. With offices in Los Angeles, New York, London, Munich, and Hong Kong, the company was the recognized leader in its field with a truly global presence. Services included design for all media, brand strategy, and marketing communications. Primary lines of business for the company were branding television networks, convergent media strategy, and interface design for emerging digital media platforms. 


His work has received over 900 industry awards for creative excellence including five Emmy Awards. His work on algebra’scool was recognized at the Best Instructional Program of 2004 by the Association of Educational Publishers, and as the Best Educational Program of the last 25 years by the Telly Awards. His ZOOOOS Interactive DVD System received the highest rating ever given for DVD systems by Children’s Technology Review, plus the 2007 iParenting Media Award, and the 2007 Parent’s Choice Award.


Mr. Pittard is also known for his popular presentations at industry conferences and universities. He has served on numerous boards and is currently a member of the Board of Visitors for Middle Tennessee State University’s School of Communications.
