2007 has been a strange year so far. Resting from writing I picked up my camera more to vent my creative spleen. So what has 2007 meant to me so far? The 6 year fight for compensation for the loss of my dads life to Mesothelioma (asbestos cancer) has ended. It cannot be called justice for those who have died or the grieving left behind but it’s a chapter that has closed. Over the 6 years of campaigning I wrote many letters to many politicians, the responses of some were inappropriate, inadequate and miss informed. Over 100,000 thousand in the UK and multi millions world wide will have died by the time this, the biggest industrial disaster know to man, claims its last victim. Millions of tonnes of asbestos used in the construction industry is still out there today in schools, hospitals, prisons, public buildings and homes. More people die of asbestos related disease than in road accidents and wars but we don’t have advertising campaigns to educate on health and safety to protect lives today.
Asbestos is still being manufactured around the globe. It must stop. Justice for my dad and fellow victims can only be a world wide ban on asbestos. The fight for compensation is over the search for justice continues.
Thanks for checking in to my pages, check out the new link to see John Siddique recite my favourite poem of his, Cheap Moisturiser, from his book The Prize, I was lucky enough to hear this live a few years ago, I hope you like it.
