As of April 26, 2006, twenty years have passed since a radioactive cloud swept over Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, and parts of western Europe, following an explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine.
According to experts, many Chernobyl-related health, economic, environmental, and social burdens are just now becoming clear. Despite evacuation of the highly radioactive Exclusion Zone, millions of people live in the shadow of a tragedy that is far from over - that in fact may be just beginning.
