slog for sudan

For ten days, from September 1st, seven hikers

walked 200 miles down the C&O canal with no

backpacks, no tents, no sleeping bags and

absolutely no food!  Only each other for comfort and

a single tea bag each for sustenance.

This was the second such “Slog.”  The first, 2 years

ago, raised $25,000 for the education of girls in

Afghanistan.  This time participants sought

sponsorship to raise money for health and education

clinics in Southern Sudan.  These centers are being

built and run by the John Dau Foundation.

Donations are 100% tax deductible and ALL money

raised goes directly to the clinics.

John Dau, a former Lost Boy and star of the film

“God Grew Tired of Us,” was right behind this year’s

Slog and was in the courtyard at National

Geographic Headquarters in Washington DC, at

4pm on September 10, to welcome the hikers over

the finish line.

This fund-raiser has the blessing of the National

Geographic Society but it is not an official Society

event.
