The phase transitions and the critical phenomena in the soft matter systems are studied in our laboratory. The soft matter systems are composed of the lipids, the surfactants, the synthetic polymers and the biopolymers such as the polysaccharides and the proteins. These soft matters constructs various structural units such as the liquid crystal, the micelles, the vesicles, and the gels, which are the fundamental structural units of the life. By studying the phase transitions and the critical phenomena of the soft matters, we believe that we will understand the origin of the life in future.
