MELTING THE STARS

MELTING THE STARS
An Exhibition of Photographs
of the People of Burma

by Joey Bieber

at the Brunei Gallery, SOAS, London
12 July - 21 September 2001 and
15 October - 7 December 2001

at the Burstow Gallery, Brighton
7 January - 7 February 2002

Melting the Stars captures a way of living that in many ways has not changed for thousands of years. The photographs feature men, women and children still largely ignorant of the ways of the West. All of them are human, built according to the same design as every other human being. They live with great deprivation and hardship and yet so many evince a gentleness sustained by an inner strength, that puts us all to shame.
