Born prematurely in Yorkshire, England, in 1956, it would cause no surprise to learn that Joey had emerged from her incubator holding a camera, for she has rarely been seen without one, since.
Her home, on a farm set deep in the country, in Sussex, England, may be full of the usual things that fill houses holding four teenage children, a dog, donkeys and a husband, but hers is also crammed full of albums of photographs, recording life on an almost daily basis.

Invariably travelling with her family, Joey has photographed in countries as remote as Bhutan and Afghanistan picturing life, exotic or mundane, as it is lived. Whether princes or peasants, in Manhattan or Mandalay, we are, all of us, the same, our repertory of feelings identical, and Joey's lens appears to love us all.
Educated at various schools in England, Joey graduated from the Sothebys Fine Arts Course, in 1977. A qualified Montessori teacher, teaching before starting her family, confirmed for her the essential humanity of every single human being. It is this which she has gone on to capture on film, endowing the pictures with an almost tangible compassion and warmth.
