The Children's Civil Rights Union (CCRU) is a group of activists of all ages dedicated to securing the basic human rights of children. In particular, we work to protect children from sexual abuse by those charged with their care -- an especially horrific human rights violation that is perpetrated every day.
CCRU seeks to give child sex abuse victims--a group most prefer to think barely exists--a voice in the halls of power. In 2005, members of CCRU were instrumental in winning passage of a law in California eliminating the "incest loophole," which had authorized more lenient treatment of convicted child sex abusers if their own kids were their victims.
Though our site is under construction, we are hard at work now on further California legislation.
