Wow, it’s funny how your level of contentment with your own life can change from day to day. Most of this week I was totally bummed out because I’m staying in japan for Christmas, but today I am stoked. I can earn a living without leaving my house, I have plenty of time for knitting, I get to play guitar with Jesse all the time, I made new knitting friends (girls! finally!) yesterday, and I’m a prize-winning knitter for the second time in my life.
What was that, you ask? Prize-winning knitter? That’s right, homeboys. A knitting cafe and gallery located serendipitously nearby my home had a contest for handmade articles. Knitted, crocheted, sewn, jewelry, all original pieces welcome. They had a big party last night at which they announced the winners, so all the staff and guests could have a chance to vote on the entries. There were so many nice things (even a wedding dress) and I didn’t really see anybody checking mine out, so I was surprised when I won. Yay! (^-^) 2nd place went to a set of very tiny crocheted piggies, that were incredibly detailed and accessorized (I voted for those, too); and 3rd went to a very cute crocheted bear (I think--sometimes you can’t tell with Amigurumi). The crowd obviously favored needlework. Click here or on Knitting Bender’s Knitting (at right on the blog’s main page) to see some photos of my superbad, prize-winning Thai Pants. Katie will hate these.
The party was a lot of fun, too. There were a lot more people there than I expected (about 50, pretty good for something called “X’mas Knit Night Party” on a Saturday night--there were even about 7 or 8 guys there!!). We all crocheted (or learned to crochet) a scarf too, all stuff supplied by the gallery. The photo at top is of me (duh) and two girls I was sitting with, Rie and Arisa from Nara. We’re supposed to get together again for some knitting/crochet action, so hooray! New knitting buddies! (^_^)*
