Yarn: Bernat Handicrafter Cotton
Needles: US size 7
Gauge: 18 sts and 26 rows over 4”
Note: This pattern fits a bath-size bar of Ivory Soap. I was able to make two from one ball of Bernat.
Row 1 (WS): Knit
Row 2 (RS): (K1, yo) twice, K4, (yo, K1) 4 times, K3, (yo, K1) twice. 23 sts.
Row 3: Knit
Row 4: K2, yo, K1, yo, K6, yo, K1, yo, K3, yo, K1, yo, K6, yo, K1, yo, K2. 31 sts.
Rows 5-34, (or until piece measures 4 inches from the cast on row): Knit.
You should end on a WS row, ready to knit on the RS.
Row 35: K2, SK2P, K6, SK2P, K3, SK2P, K6, SK2P, K2.
Row 36: Knit
Row 37: K2, (yo, K2tog) across, K1
Row 38: Knit
Row 39: Bind off as follows using picot bind off:
K1 stitch, pass over the next stitch.
Return that stitch to the left needle
*Knit into that stitch, put the stitch just created back on the left hand needle.
create another stitch in the same way, put it back on the left hand needle.
bind off 4 stitches. Put the remaining loop back on the left hand needle.
Repeat from * across.
Break yarn and sew up the side seam and across the bottom of the soap holder.
Make a 36” rope by making a crochet chain, braid, i-cord, or twist.
Lace the rope through the eyelet loops, insert a bar of soap and tie it closed.
Knot the ends of the cord together.
abbreviations:
K = Knit
K2tog = Knit 2 together
RS = Right Side
SK2P= slip one stitch as knitwise, knit the next two stitches together, pass the slipped
stitch over.
sts = stitches
WS = Wrong side
yo = yarn over
