Established in memory of Officer Jorgen S. Holand this award is sponsored by the Delaware County Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation. The Memorial Foundation has developed it’s mission to include an achievement award in memory of my uncle, Officer Jorgen S. Holand, who died in the line of duty.

My uncle, Jorgen “Lefty” Holand, left his family, friends, and fellow police officers long before we were ready. There was no better way to honor his memory then to recognize those dedicated to building a stronger police force - a police force in Delaware County that continues to protect and serve the way that he did.

Serving Delaware County from 1979-1998, my Uncle Lefty graduated from the DCCC Municipal Police Academy - excelling in every aspect of training. Upon graduation, he became an officer in Upper Chichester where he established the first K-9 unit in his department.

He was a certified arms instructor in Pennsylvania at the DELCO Police Academy and with the National Rifle Association. He continued his commitment to the Police Academy by returning as a firearms range instructor. My Uncle Lefty was dedicated to the profession & worked to ensure future officers were properly trained and educated.

The most memorable tribute to my Uncle was at a dinner held in his honor by his fellow Upper Chichester Police officers on June 28, 1998. Just one month prior to his death, he was presented with a plaque inscribed with the following:

For sharing with us your knowledge, skills, professionalism, & wisdom
Your genuine compassion for your fellow man & your unselfish heart
Makes us honored to have worked with you and
    Proud to be your friend.

You have been our teacher, partner, & friend.
You have touched each of us deeply in our hearts
and have truly inspired us to bring out the best in ourselves.

We love you Mister! With love, respect, & friendship -
    Your Fellow Officers

Our goal is to take a holistic approach to honoring a cadet from each class by evaluating not just their academic achievements, but also their skills in firearms, physical abilities and their commitment to the profession of policing & serving your community.

Sincerely,
