Sam is growing up! *sob* He won’t be my little baby much longer!

Over the past few weeks, Sam has been trying oh-so-hard to pull himself up to a standing position. He did it once, but then couldn’t replicate it. Well, that has all changed now. He can pull himself up using his crib slats, an empty diaper box, and even Mommy’s arm. And he loves it. He stands up and then starts grinning and laughing and bouncing up and down. Now he’s not quite sure what to do once he’s standing, but boy, is he excited!

He is not crawling yet, more like slithering along the floor on this belly. But he can definitely cross a room if he wants to - not fast enough that we can’t catch him, but he definitely moves.

He is also eating bits of “real” food - like banana, Gerber finger food snacks, and crackers. He has also tasted waffle, cream of wheat, and hot dog bun. There are times when he doesn’t want to sit there and be fed with a spoon. He’s cried out for food that he can pick up and feed himself with.

With all of these goings-on, Mommy and Daddy have had to get their acts together. We had covered almost every outlet and begun moving things that can easily fall on the floor from low surfaces. We actually lowered the crib today to its lowest position. (He moved to a different crib this week at daycare too.) We had moved the mobile from his crib a week or so ago.

Today we also started sorting through which kitchen drawers and cabinets would be safe for Sam to open. In moving things around, we actually realized we had more cabinet space and finally found a place to put Sam’s baby food, formula cans, and empty baby bottles. Wow! I have so much counter space again!

And soon we will start figuring out how to feed him more “real” food. Tofu, anyone?

And so he continues to grow and become more independent. Yet, he is still my little baby. This afternoon, he woke up crying from a nap, so I went to get him. When I picked him up, he still seemed a little sleepy, so he and I sat down on the couch and he fell asleep on my lap for a little while. I was reminded of the saying that my mom cross-stitched to hang in Sam’s room: “Settle down, cobwebs; Dust, go to sleep; I’m rocking my baby; And babies don’t keep.” It was a wonderful “mommy” moment.
