Berkeley College Exhibits By the Window
Paintings of New York Artist Miriam Wills

Berkeley College is exhibiting By the Window, acrylic and collage paintings, by New York City artist Miriam Wills. The paintings are on display at the Berkeley College Midtown Campus Gallery, First Floor Lobby, 3 East 43rd Street, from May 6 through May 30. The exhibit is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. An artist’s reception for Ms. Wills will be held on Thursday, May 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Ms. Wills, whose paintings are primarily abstract, works with acrylics or oils, often complemented with collage. “I find excitement working with jewel-like colors and strong swings of forms,” she says. “The structure of my composition relates to Cubism, though the content may impart surrealistic suggestions of our world as I experience it.”

Ms. Wills’ paintings have been displayed in a number of select group and solo shows including the Broome Street Gallery, New York City; Silver Palm Gallery, Hilton Head, NC; Allen Arts Gallery, Singapore; Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, NY; and the Fine Arts Museum of the South, Mobile, Alabama.

She has received a number of awards for her work, including third prize in painting from the Penn & Brush Club, New York City, in 2005; the American Society of Contemporary Artists (ASCA) Award for Painting in 2004; and first prize for painting from the Pen & Brush Club, New York City, in 2003.

In addition, her work has appeared in group exhibitions, juried and invitational traveling shows, as well as many galleries and museums throughout the country and abroad. Ms. Wills holds an MA degree from Hunter College and a BFA degree from the University of Georgia.
