Petersburg Collection in Google 3d Warehouse

This website showcases the work of the 11th and 12th grade Integrated class of Petersburg High School.  While studying American history and literature this year, students researched the history of a local building, created a model of the building for Google Earth, and presented their research in this website and Archiplanet.org.

Students used a variety of computer tools and web resources to create and publish their research to the web.

Students began by locating the coordinates of their building in Google Earth to correctly place the building on the map.  They then uploaded the building site’s terrain into Google Sketchup to construct a framework for their building.  Building measurements were used to correctly scale these

models.
Students used model components downloaded from other Sketchup users or building photos edited with Photoshop to create accurate walls.

After finishing the buildings, the students uploaded them into the Google Sketchup 3D Warehouse.  The buildings are now shared with anyone on the web who can download them into their own Sketchup program or Google Earth.

At the same time as they were creating their buildings, students researched and conducted interviews to learn about the history of the buildings.  They then put this information into a webpage as well as online at Archiplanet.org, a website for architecture, that is similar to Wikipedia.
