BCHA

Bearded Collie Herding Association

Can Bearded Collies Herd?       EWE  BCHA!

This website is dedicated to the handler who uses their Beardie on stock or is just starting the journey.

Here in the USA for the most part, we are no longer a pastoral society.  Beardies came to the USA not necessarily  as a working dog but to love and be loved..  YET, many are discovering the heritage of this dog and seek in some way or format to be a very small part of that age old profession...herding.

Working stock comes in many venues these days.  Some of us trial, some of us enjoy the training, some use the dogs in everyday work on small productive farms.  In the UK, historical home of the Bearded Collie, there are shepherds who still use an agile, smart, independent shaggy dog happily labeled as ‘beardie’ in that his looks are coated, and he has a hairy face.  Practical dog for practical work.

To that end a new group is in the process of being assembled.

Purpose of BCHA

The Bearded Collie Herding Association is being organized in response to the increasing interest in herding activities by owners of Bearded Collies Nationally and Internationally. The focus of the BCHA program is on practical herding work, and the acknowledgment of ALL work, be it of a competitive nature or in everyday work.  The goal of the BCHA, once established, is to promote an appreciation of the skills and value of the Bearded Collie as a working dog and to help provide information about training, herding behaviors and herding in general.

This website is a bit of record keeping for all who would like to participate.  There are pictures of Beardies from all over the world doing good solid work in both small areas and, perhaps where they are actually more comfortable, in open fields with larger flocks.

There is a section where, for fun, we are beginning to post Beardies and their accomplishments and all are welcome, whether they be Canadian, US or across the pond.

We would invite you to enter in and share our journey. Page indexes are at the top of each page
