Welcome!
These pages host pictures of and information about my father’s service in World War II. He flew a P-38 as part of the Fifth Photographic Group, stationed in Bari, Italy.
When I was growing up, Dad didn’t share a whole lot about the experience with his family, but that started changing the evening we watched Murder on the Orient Express on TV and he said, listening to the conductor describe where the train had gotten snowbound, “Why, I flew over there.” He got out old boxes and laid out maps and flight logs for us, to everyone’s delight. Int the years that followed, more and more came up for us to learn about. I’ve wanted for years to put this material online to share with the rest of you, and it’s finally time.
I’m beginning with a fairly small sampling. More will follow, as I figure out how to arrange it all. The updates page should keep you current.
If you’d like to comment, please feel free to e-mail me at hal.p38@mac.com and I’ll be glad to read it, and to pass along messages to Dad.
Thank you very much for reading, and I hope you find something to enjoy.
