Brian Baxter has, over the last 35 years or so, firmly established himself as one of New Zealand’s most sought after artists in the field of landscape, still life and flower paintings. Until 1973 he ran his own signwriting business in Blenheim, but since then has painted professionally, winning the prestigious Kelliher prize for landscapes in 1977. Brian has exhibited in all N.Z main centres as well as Adelaide and Washington D.C. He works mainly in oils in a “traditional representational” style, with occasional excursions into watercolours or acrylics, and his works in all three media hang in many countries throughout the world. Three European tours since 2000 have produced many paintings from such areas as Cornwall, Italy, Switzerland, France, Venice, Germany, Holland, the U.K. and Greece. Closer to home, Australia, Fiji and our own stunning scenery have all been revisited many times. Except for such field trips and some “plein air” or location painting, he now works mainly from his studio in Blenheim, where he and wife Kathy also have a well appointed Bed and Breakfast.http://www.baxterhomestay.comshapeimage_1_link_0
