I made my first short fiction film while living in Chennai, India in 1997.  The film starred a group of orphans, and though I had no idea of what I was doing cinematically, the story and imagery were an indication of what my later work would explore: dirt, beauty, confusion and contradiction.

In 1998 I went to film school in Lodz, Poland, and in 2006 I got my MFA from Columbia University’s Film Division.  In the meantime I shot, edited and directed documentaries for Polish National TV, music videos for unsigned hip hop artists from Brooklyn, Harlem and Africa, industrials for IBM, internet pieces for Nike and AOL, video art shown in galleries and at the MOMA in NYC, and a BBC feature documentary about homeless soccer players.  I also work regularly as a dp/camera operator for independent documentary directors and producers.

I also have a degree from the English Department at Amherst College (BA, summa cum laude, 1996).
