Safety First!
Before anything else, be safe! We have gone to great lengths to create instruments that have been extensively kid-tested and are extremely safe to build and play. However, some instruments do require an adult to do the construction work, especially as related to cutting wood or using certain tools. As you run through the building process of the instruments you will find that the steps where adult assistance or supervision is required are clearly marked.
Here are a few general safety tips:
•Always check your materials with an adult before using them
•If there is ever any question on a particular material, don’t use it.
•Never use tools without adult supervision, and always consult an adult for advice on how to use them safely.
•Always use adequate safety precautions, such as a table vise when cutting, eye protection at all times, etc.
•Always use good common sense. Look ahead to catch problems before you begin (“let’s see, if the saw slips, then....uh-oh...”)
