So I was watching an episode of DL.TV last night and they were talking about freezing a drive to try to get data off it.  The theory is that if the motor’s bearings are worn out, freezing the drive can help loosen them up long enough to get it to spin up and grab your data.  Well someone wrote in saying they used this technique to get data off, but kept using the drive.  The drive failed and the person lost all the new data on the drive.  The point is, if it works get your data and throw the drive away!!  Patrick made the suggestion of driving a spike through it.  That’s actually a lot harder than it sounds.

More drive destruction.
