Employee choice of medical bill gathers steam.
Iowa Gov. Culver is in negotiations with legislators to try to work out a compromise on this issue.
Of all the attempts to push through such a measure, this is the closest employee choice has ever come to being enacted.

The Iowa Association of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers, Inc., (IAWC) is a group of attorneys who specialize in workers’ compensation practice. We have members from both the claimant and defense bar, and some lawyers represent both sides.
Every October IAWC sponsors a seminar that is open to the public. The programs vary from year to year, with emphasis on new developments and on medical information. Attendance averages 300-350 per year. Attendees include, of course, lawyers as well as many people from insurance companies, self-insured employers, nurses, rehabilitation specialists.

It was with sorrow that we learned of the death of Jim Thorn, one of the founders and a past president of IAWC. A memorial service in Council Bluffs was held for Jim on February 20th.
