Blazing heat today, not just directly from the sun, but also from the rays bouncing off a hundred broken windscreens. We were at Bridges Salvage Yard near Crawley to film Episode 5.
We arrived at Bridges about 7.30am, but we didn’t get the first shot in the bag until a few hours later, because of some technical issues with an EMU (you can see it in the picture above; it allows you to operate the camera at the end of a long “arm”, making it possible to get shots that swoop down from high up).
The text for Episode 5 is Philippians 3:1-9. It’s called “Righteous In Christ”, and as director Steve Hughes pointed out, “You use the word ‘righteous’ a lot in this one, don’t you?” The aim is to show how Paul could dismiss years of flawless religious practice as “rubbish” (hence the busted up, broken down location).
We also had the pleasure today of meeting Chico the Doberman. Chico takes direction better than I do, sitting, barking and growling on command. He did need a bit of persuading by his trainer, to be fair, but you don’t get impatient with a Doberman. I’ll leave you to work out why we needed a dog for this part of Philippians.
We had an exciting end to the day, as we raced to get everything we needed before the sun finally disappeared below the treeline at about 8pm. We just made it, getting the final shot on our final take.
