The Michigan Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology is a Local Chapter of the Division of Psychoanalysis (39) of the American Psychological Association.  MSPP furthers psychoanalytic ways of thinking, educating and practice through monthly meetings, workshops/conferences, the MSPP Newsletter, the website (www.mspp.net), other educational offerings and its section:  The Academy for the Study of the Psychoanalytic Arts.  MSPP is a 501 (C) (3) organization and donations are thus tax deductible.

MSPP holds the position that psychoanalysis is not a monolith in theory, scholarship, practice or educational format.  MSPP further holds the position that in all things psychoanalytic there are legitimate, long-standing and valid differences of opinion and that all such positions are part of the discourse of psychoanalysis.  MSPP maintains that there is no single, correct and “scientific” psychoanalysis and no single pathway toward becoming a competent professional.  It is also our view that the public and professional communities are best served by knowing this and being thus encouraged to think about different perspectives within psychoanalysis, including the differing perspectives about the location of psychoanalysis among the disciplines.  This knowledge will allow for informed choices.  MSPP welcomes as members people of all disciplines with an interest in psychoanalysis.

Founded in 1980, we continue to celebrate our commitment to the advancement of psychoanalytic thinking in the  State of Michigan. Welcoming all significant viewpoints in psychoanalysis, MSPP members meet on a regular basis to present and discuss their ideas with one another. Committed to fostering the presence and growth of psychoanalysis as a way of thinking, we are interested in making psychoanalytic ways of thinking more available to interested persons within the professional and non-professional communities in Michigan.
