Collaborate On Annual Festival
Red Bluff Union High School and the nonprofit BareStage Theatre are teaming up to bring the original work of new authors to Tehama County for the fourth annual "Six 15s @ Eight" New Plays Festival, Oct 2, 3, 4 and 16, 17 & 18.
Tickets are only $10 general admission are are on sale now at Wild Oak, in downtown Red Bluff, during normal business hours or anytime online at barestage.com. Reservations are available by calling 529-1241.
Although BareStage has provided a place for RBUHS students to gain performing arts experience since its inceptions, this is the first time the opportunity has been part of the school's curriculum. Advanced RBUHS Drama II students will receive class assignment credit for rehearsal and performance in the festival.
"The high school has a great facility in the Performing Arts Center," said BareStage Board President Sharon Pressburg, "But it is needed for much more than just theatre, so the stage opportunities can be somewhat limited. And BareStage is thrilled to be able to provide the kids a chance to learn with unique and original plays and to perform in a completely different venue for completely different audiences."
Among the featured plays will actually be seven alternating scripts this year, including:
"Riches To Rags To Riches," by Paul Dexter of New York, NY.
Mona and Harry are very wealthy, but you'd never know it, because they go to the most extreme lengths to hide their status, including dressing like paupers to mingle among the "common folk."
"Enigmatic Lucidity," by Len Cuthbert of Ontario, Canada.
Bob keeps waking up from the same dream only to discover that he is still dreaming ... or is he?
"You Called?" by Everett Chambers of Half Moon Bay, CA
Martha has dumped Steve, who turns to the Lord for guidance. Unfortunately. God is not George Burns in this play which proves the old adage, "More tears have been shed over answered prayers then unanswered ones."
"Two Halves," by M. John Bohane of Nokomis, FL
After ending their marriage in divorce, a 'Man' and a "Woman" turn, separately, to an online dating service, with very unexpected -- yet very familiar -- results.
"Faces On The Cutting Room Floor," by Gene Washington of Logan, Utah.
What if the 1967 film, "Bonnie & Clyde" had ended in a different way than in the original? Or in another way? Or another? Or six different ways? Each conclusion is more outrageous than the last in this play which may prove you just can't outrun fate.
"Muse," by Rachel Teagle or Minneapolis, MN.
Lydia is a struggling young writer deep in a creative rut, until a frustrated Greek muse appears to show her the true meaning of inspiration.
"A Battle Of Egos," by Neil Teague, of Torrance, CA
Kerie and Mel meet by chance in an art gallery and really hit it off. The problem is, they aren't the only players in the game when their self-centered selves jump into the fray and engage in a "battle of egos."
All seats are only $10 general admission are are on sale now at Wild Oak, in downtown Red Bluff, during normal business hours or anytime online at barestage.com. Reservations are available by calling 529-1241.
