Play

Have you noticed that electronics are really toys for adults?  We are excited to hear about gadgets or at least intrigued by what they promise to do.

We could take a lesson from my ”tweenage” son.  He received a new cell phone for Christmas (or was it Hannukah?).  His attitude was “Oh wow, it makes movies.  I can record my own sounds, I can take pictures.”

As he pushed buttons and made images I heard lots of my own limiting thoughts and decided to voice them.  “What if you push the wrong button?”  “I can close the phone and start all over,” he replied. Yes, he could go back to square one.  He knew how to bail out if he got into trouble.

There usually is a way back to the beginning when you play with a device, whether it’s a cancel button, an exit key or even “power off” (Some menus have you press the menu button again to get out.)

Whether it’s a cell phone, a TV or a home theater, we can use the same idea.  It’s a new toy, play with it!  See what happens when you press this button or that button.  Chances are you won’t break it.

If you play and explore who knows what you’ll find.
