That letter took the wind out of my sails. I wasn’t sure what to do. I had received a great response from every woman who had seen the book. Some were ordering up to 20 advance copies for their teams. The Tattered Cover, one of the most recognized independent book stores in the country was behind it. Yet the EXPERTS said that my book didn’t fit their formula. And, I will admit I had done everything wrong. The wrong colors, too high a quality, a new genre (picture book for women), and to top it off - unique illustrations.

I was sitting at the kitchen table when my youngest son, Joey, asked what was wrong. Explaining the situation he looked perplexed and said (I quote), “Don’t you talk to women about taking risks when they believe in something?” Spoken like a true man.
