BIOGRAPHY
Barbara Strnadova was born in Prague, (former) Czechoslovakia. Escaping Communism and defecting with her parents as a baby, Barbara was raised on Long Island, NY, she now resides Near New Paltz, NY. Inspired at the early age of 15, she discovered a passion for photography. She went on to study Fashion photography at the Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC. As well as receiving her BFA in photography at The College at New Paltz, NY.
She has been photographing for over 25 years. She has exhibited in many galleries including the Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY as well as other exhibitions in California, New York, Illinois, Michigan and Louisiana.
Barbara has photographed numerous weddings and events. She has also worked as a Photographer and Photo Editor at the APSCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in NYC.
Barbara travels extensively, her "ANGKOR" series was inspired by photographer Kenro Izu as was her travels throughout Cambodia and South East Asia. Her current surreal imagery is inspired by the ability with which nature reclaims a human manipulated environment.
Insects and Arthropods are also a specialty for Barbara. Her large stock Insect photo collection predominantly consists of gorgeous butterflies to prickly scorpions to graceful damselflies and many many more.

Art statement
For me, the artistic process involves exploring either my subconscious or the world around me for surreal imagery that can be brought to physical form through Photography. I express myself through the use of figures in psychological, seductive and narrative scenarios that are otherworldly and dreamlike. At other times I use photography to capture the same elements in the landscape and architecture the world has provided for us.
