Last Christmas Chip gave me this idea to turn the chest freezer into an actual kegerator. I have been kind of thing of this for a while but did not see how it could be done cleanly. I could not put the taps thru the top, because they would smash into the wall when the lid had to be opened, and I did not want to go thru the side because I have no idea what is in the sidewalls of the freezer. Then Chip suggested building a “collar” to make a wooden spacer between the freezer and the lid. So I looked it up that night and saw how simple and elegant it could be.
Two days later I had the collar built. I had to wait another three weeks until Chip was able to get the order from our beverage supplier and I could finish the goodness.
I little description of what you see.
First, the freezer completed with the collar and the two tap handles.
I got the tap handles off eBay for $10 apiece.
The primary regulator on the tank got a wye adapter so I could bring gas to two separate “places”.
The temperature regulator that allows me to keep the freezer at 40F instead of “deep freeze.”
The collar allowed me to bring in the two gas lines plus the temperature probes.
The secondary regulator so that I can have beer at two different carbonation levels.
A four way distributor so that I can have four beer on tap at the lower pressure.
The inside look at how the beer gets out to the tap handles.
Another look at the tap handles.
