Villenke 2.0

Last Christmas Chip gave me this idea to turn the chest freezer into an actual kegerator.  I have been kind of thing of this for a while but did not see how it could be done cleanly.  I could not put the taps thru the top, because they would smash into the wall when the lid had to be opened, and I did not want to go thru the side because I have no idea what is in the sidewalls of the freezer.  Then Chip suggested building a “collar” to make a wooden spacer between the freezer and the lid.  So I looked it up that night and saw how simple and elegant it could be.

Two days later I had the collar built.  I had to wait another three weeks until Chip was able to get the order from our beverage supplier and I could finish the goodness.

Chip and I decided to go with the Shirron forward seal faucets.  The line on these is that they are easier to clean, gunk up less, and are all stainless so there is no chrome bits getting into your drink.

I decided to only go with two taps right now.  It is fairly common to have two different beers available but usually not more than that.  With the setup though it would not be difficult to upgrade to 3, 4, 5, or six taps.  It would only take $$$.

Kegerator
