Hop Pole

Last year I grew my hops up the side of the garage. This worked out OK for the first year but there were some flaws in the setup.

Firstly, once the bines got to the roof of the garage they could no longer follow the twine since it was flush against the roof.

Secondly, they second year growth is usually much greater than the first and these would be inadequate.

So I decided that a new method would be needed....and hence the Hop Pole.

This year the hop bines will start in the same manner as last year and then go across to the pole at an angle. This will provide greater length for them to grow on and increased daytime sun.
