3rd Grade State Songs

3rd Grade State Songs

Wednesday, March 5, 2008
We are studying the 50 States in social studies. Each of us were assigned a state to research and present about during the 50 States Fair in February of 2008. In music class, we had to compose an 8 measure melody using Finale NotePad. We were allowed to use the notes that we have been studying and performing on the recorder: G (do), A (re), B (mi), C (fa), and D (sol). We were asked to compose with the following rhythms: quarter notes and rests, eighth notes, half notes, and whole notes. Once we completed our melodies, we used Apple’s GarageBand to create an accompaniment to our melodies. This was all done with five Mac computers and all of us grouped into 5 groups.
Afterwards, Mrs. Burns printed out our melodies and burned our accompaniments onto CDs using Apple’s iTunes. We then took pencils and wrote in lyrics for the state that we were studying. We enjoyed this project thoroughly. In our reflections to Mrs. Burns, we wrote such comments as “I love to compose!” “This was so much fun!” “It was cool to have social studies in music class.” “I learned how to work in a group better.” “I love music!”
We sincerely hope that you enjoy our state songs.
Sincerely,
The students of Grade 3
