HISTORY OF AVA HOUSE
In 1881, George Whitehead started construction on the Ava House for his younger brother, Erastus Whitehead. Unfortunately, Erastus died young leaving his wife, Josephine, with six children, the youngest being six months. The hardships were great but Uncle George helped out. Josephine was also saddened by the death of her 6 year old daughter Lillian. Lillian is reported to have continued her residence at the Ava House to this very day as an additional playful child in the home. Pictures of the family are on display at the Ava House.
