I LOVE BIG. I like to work outside, I like ambient light, and I adore looking at things in the real world, the BIG world. My paper is big and my brushes are big, I slosh water across the surface and squirt pigment straight from the tube. I coo over big flat strokes and giant sloppy shapes and I like to dance and move around and conduct Beethoven or the Beatles or Buck Owens while I work. You take the biggest paper you can handle to the best spot you can find, under a street lamp or the moon, or the edge of the New River gorge in the rain and you get out your soft 4" flats and your box of stuff and just like that, time disappears and you need more. We are so lucky to be safe in the BIG world, to have electricity and color and bug spray and food. More stuff, more space in your truck, more time on the road, that's what I work on as an artist.
