THe Little Workers Of The Mining Industry
By Joseph McPhee
Advocates of biotechnology have consistently upheld the notion that the field contributes to human health care, environmental protection, and industrial-scale synthesis of complex chemicals. Despite the obvious importance of these areas, biotechnology also has much to offer to other fields. One of the oldest of these is the mining industry. The earliest use of microbial processes for mining occurred long before it was clear that microbes were responsible for the effects observed. At the Rio Tinto (Red River) mine in Seville, Spain, Roman era copper mine workings were rediscovered in 1556. Evidence suggests that the mine used water from the Rio Tinto - water containing a very high concentration of ferric iron owing to microbial activity in the area1. When the water from this river was irrigated onto copper containing deposits, the copper dissolved and later precipitated as smaller deposits that could be collected. Although the people at the time likely believed this process to be magic, we now know that it was the first recorded use of biomineralization. Bacteria hard at work: Biomineralization

also from this document...

Microbes (one of which is MOLD) & Metals (one of which is MERCURY) have a very specific relationship with each other in the body & in any living “thing” for that matter (think of a pond or a lake....lots to learn from water ecology along with mining). Mercury is “anti-microbial” but also accumulated in the presence of microbes at the very same time...complex yet simple. I think of the mercury sortof frying a little path & creating dead microbes only to be surrounded & covered by the “winners” of the microbial race to be the “king of the hill” of the heap of microbial/toxic debris. When you kill off the microbe that is the dominant “king of the hill” (for that particular damaged spot in the body) the debris is uncovered & accessible for chelation...which by the way means “binding to...& not only to metal” in the hopes of removal!

Greater microbial burden negatively impacts our bodies ability to detoxify heavy metals & visa versa...it’s a very vicious cycle & the question of “which came first...the chicken or the egg?”...who cares...let’s just recognize this relationship so we can heal our kids!

more later! Focusing on NEUROTOXINS makes more sense!

Sunday, January 14, 2007 Vlog Entry

Ubiquitous MERCURY exposure accompanied by chronic MOLD results in exponential accumulation of BOTH. This results in an over-burdened immune & neurological system & opportunistic microbes thriving & setting up habitats...

This VLOG entry

was designed to provide David Kirby with the background information on the microbe/mold/mercury connection I  presented to him on 1/13/7.

could this be where the build up is?

Could the MOLD/Microbes be creating a more toxic version of the metals... potentially mirroring/potentiating the down side of having Th2 & Phase I Liver detox dominant children???

“Heavy Metal Toxicity

Metals can exist in the body with different kinds of chemical bonds and as different molecules.
Mercury appears to be the king-pin in the cascade of events in which metals become pathogenic. Mercury can be present as metallic mercury (HgO), as mercury salt (e.g. mercury chloride – HG+), or as methyl mercury (HG++).  Methyl mercury is 50 times more toxic than metallic mercury.  Methyl-Hg is so firmly bound to the body that it has to be first reduced to HG+ before it can be removed from the cell.  This is achieved with reducing agents (“antioxidants”) e.g. intravenous vitamin C and reduced glutathione. To remove Hg-Salts or metallic Hg from the outside of the cell, other agents are useful Mercury belongs to a group of metals that oxidize in the presence of sulfur and form compounds with sulfur (sulfhydryl affinitive metals).  Methyl mercury is already oxidized to its maximum and bound firmly to sulfur in the different proteins of the body. The following metals belong to the sulfhydryl affinitive group and respond to similar detoxification methods:  Copper, arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury. Aluminum and iron for example would not respond a sulfur compound. Some detox agents have multiple mechanisms by which they bind to metals. The algal organism chlorella has over 20 known such mechanisms.

Other metals oxidize with oxygen.  Iron turns to rust when oxidized.  Rust is nontoxic to the body, whereas iron is.  Iron overdose responds to a chemical called desferoximin (desferal).  Aluminum responds to the same detoxification agent. A recent Japanese study showed that Chinese parsley, cilantro, is a powerful elimination agent for aluminum stored in bone and the brain.”

Could MOLD simply be turning metallic mercury into MethylMercury -50X’s

more toxic?

...any microbe

for that matter!
