Paliochora on Kythera

 
 

This image shows the general appearance of the settlement from the only viable approach. The main defensive wall can be seen, standing to its full height. Parts of this wall have collapsed, and the reconstruction shows them restored, but it has been shown no higher than the tallest surviving portion. In front of it are some houses and churches that were built on the flatter ground outside the defence wall. Beyond the wall it is possible to make out the upper parts of the churches that were built at the highest point of the settlement, In the far distance mainland Greece is very faintly visible.
