So being thrown together with a roommate in College is.... terrifying, but it can also be the best experience in your life! Both my sister and I were placed with girls that we had never met. The trickiest part is figuring out what to expect. My roommate wrote me a nice letter and sent a picture. Come to find out she sent the picture so that I would send one back. Smart Lady. I replied to the letter where I said something about being a moron which I spelled “maroon”.
My sister called her roommate. Turns out that it was the day after she had been in a bad car accident. Cassidy was a little out of it still. When Allison gets nervous she tends to be quite talkative. She got off the phone thinking her new roommate was a hater, and Cassidy thought that she was an extremely perky cheerleader type. Cassidy also told Allison that she lived in a “hollow” ( she pronounced it “hauler”), not knowing what a “hauler” was, Allison assumed that it was a trailer park. Well I guess Allison was completely wrong about Cassidy, and Cass was..... perceptive.
The moral of the story is: Don’t judge a book by its cover. Everyone is a little nervous at first and can seem different than they are. College is a great place to learn how to interact with others. When else will you be able to live w/ tons of people your own age and hang out all the time? Both of us loved our roommates and are still great friends with them.
