Department Philosophy
We, the teachers of the Honeoye Mathematics Department, believe that mathematics is vital to the development of thinking, questioning minds. Mathematics, far more than tracing the facts of arithmetic, involves students in processes at all cognitive levels. We believe that all students can discover and appreciate mathematical ideas and can learn to see them as their own. We believe that learning mathematics is an enjoyable pursuit and we hope that our students have fun. It is our foremost concern that young people stretch to their fullest potential, become independent learners, become adept at using technology, and become comfortable in mathematical endeavors. We embrace flexibility in our assignments, thereby continually infusing our curriculum with new ideas and techniques.
