The area around Connell is so dry that it is hard to believe the town was flooded in 1907, which is memorialized in the mural. Dan’s grandparents moved to town in that year. Connell is traditionally wheat country, but nowadays a potato processing plant is important to the economy. Though many of its establishments have closed, in Jan’s page on the Connell High School Reunion, you’ll see newer, more modern facilities.
